This Privacy Policy explains what information jeffcalaway.com handles when you visit the site, why it’s used, and what choices you have. This is a personal website for articles, guides, and project information. It doesn’t currently offer user accounts, purchases, comments, newsletters, or forms that ask you for personal information.
The short version
I’ve designed this site to collect as little information as practical. I don’t sell your personal information. The site uses privacy-focused analytics to understand general traffic, and it saves up to five recent search terms in your own browser so search is easier to use. The site’s hosting provider also processes ordinary technical request information needed to deliver and protect the site.
Information this site handles
Information you choose to provide
The site doesn’t currently include forms where you can submit your name, email address, payment information, or other personal details. If you email support@jeffcalaway.com, I’ll receive your email address and any information you include in your message. I’ll use that information only for the reason you provided it, such as replying to a question. The email services involved may also process your message according to their own privacy policies.
Site searches
When you use the site search, your search term is sent to this site’s search endpoint so it can return matching pages and posts. The site also stores up to five recent search terms in your browser’s local storage. That recent-search list stays on your device and isn’t intentionally sent to me as a saved list.
You can remove individual recent searches from the search interface or clear them all. You can also remove them by clearing this site’s stored data in your browser. Because a search term may be included in a request URL, you shouldn’t enter private or sensitive information into the search box.
Analytics and technical information
This site uses Vercel Web Analytics to understand general usage, such as which pages are visited and what kinds of devices visitors use. Vercel says its Web Analytics product doesn’t use cookies and records page-view data anonymously for aggregated statistics. Analytics data may include:
- The page or route visited
- The date and time of the visit
- The referring website, when available
- An approximate location based on the request
- Browser, operating system, and device type
Vercel uses a temporary hash to estimate unique visitors. According to Vercel’s analytics privacy documentation, that identifier resets after 24 hours and isn’t used to track a person across different websites.
The site is also hosted by Vercel. Like other hosting providers, Vercel may process information such as your IP address, browser headers, requested URL, timestamps, and security or diagnostic logs to deliver the site, prevent abuse, and keep its systems reliable. How information is used
The limited information described above is used to:
- Deliver pages, search results, images, and other site features
- Understand which content and features are useful
- Diagnose errors and improve performance
- Protect the site from spam, bots, abuse, and security threats
- Meet legal obligations when they apply
I don’t use this site’s analytics to build advertising profiles or follow you across unrelated websites.
Cookies and local storage
This site doesn’t currently set cookies for advertising, user profiles, or cross-site tracking. Vercel Web Analytics doesn’t use cookies.
The recent-search feature uses local storage, which is a browser feature similar to a cookie but kept on your device. It stores only your five most recent site searches. You can delete that information through the search interface or your browser settings. If local storage is blocked or unavailable, the rest of the search feature will still work.
Sharing and selling information
I don’t sell or rent personal information. Information is shared only in these limited situations:
- Service providers: Vercel processes hosting, security, request, and analytics information to operate this site.
- Legal or safety reasons: Information may be preserved or disclosed if reasonably necessary to follow the law, respond to valid legal process, protect the site, or prevent harm.
- With your direction: If you choose to follow a link or use an outside service, your interaction with that service is governed by its own terms and privacy practices.
How long information is kept
Recent searches remain in your browser until you remove them, clear the site’s stored data, or your browser removes them.
Analytics and technical logs are kept according to Vercel’s product settings and retention practices. I’ll keep access to information only as long as it’s reasonably useful for operating, securing, or improving the site, or as required by law.
Your choices
You can:
- Use the site without creating an account or giving me your name or email address
- Avoid entering sensitive information into site search
- Remove recent searches from the search interface
- Clear or block local storage through your browser settings
- Use browser privacy controls or content blockers, though some site features may work differently
Depending on where you live, privacy laws may give you additional rights over personal information. Because this site doesn’t currently maintain user accounts or directly collect identifying details, I may not have information that can reasonably be connected back to you.
Links to other websites
Articles and pages may link to websites I don’t control. This policy doesn’t cover those websites. You should review their privacy policies if you want to understand how they handle information.
Children’s privacy
This site is written for a general audience and isn’t directed to children under 13. I don’t knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided personal information through a future site feature, please email support@jeffcalaway.com so I can address it.
Security
I use reasonable technical and organizational steps to protect the site and the limited information connected with it. No website or internet transmission can be guaranteed to be completely secure, though, so I can’t promise absolute security.
Changes to this policy
I may update this policy when the site’s features, service providers, or legal obligations change. When I do, I’ll revise the “Last updated” date at the top of this page. Material changes will be explained here before or when they take effect when that’s practical.
